The International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) has been honored as the winner of a 2020 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in the Technical & Technology Writing category for the Pharmaceutical Engineering® magazine article Blockchain for Pharmaceutical Engineers. The APEX Awards recognize achievement in writing, editing, and graphics in a wide range of communications in nonprofit and for-profit publishing and communications organizations with Awards of Excellence recognizing exceptional entries in 100 subcategories and Grand Awards honoring outstanding work in 12 major categories.
Published in the January/February 2019 issue of Pharmaceutical Engineering®, this article discusses how blockchain technology may disrupt the way we collect and manage data within regulated processes. This piece was written by three ISPE Members that are experts in this area:
“Receiving the APEX award has been a great honor; just as writing for PE Magazine about technologies like blockchain has been a fulfilling process. I’m thankful for all of those who helped along the way: my co-authors, the GAMP® community, and the Editorial Review Board. Today, as we race to digitize our supply chain, blockchain is playing a critical role in connecting our ecosystems – helping us to balance our need for trust and transparency with the privacy required to conduct business transactions,” said James Canterbury.
“I’m not sure if I’m more excited to be a recipient of the 2020 APEX Award or that blockchain is recognized as a viable technology for the pharmaceutical industry, which may be a technical solution to some of our most challenging problems,” said Steve Thompson.
“I’m honored to have received this award, and grateful to ISPE for the opportunity to be involved in an exciting and impactful new field. Blockchain technology has the potential to be revolutionary in the area of supply chain management, and in the case of the pharmaceutical industry should also provide a potent weapon in the battle against counterfeit medical products that threaten public health,” said Arthur Perez, PhD.
